All of our regular courses and groups have been temporarily cancelled throughout the November lockdown. However, we still have a handful of support groups running, as well as our community larder which is available 5 days a week.
We are delighted to say that Merchants’ Place has been chosen for the next round of the Co-op Community Fund. This means that if you are a co-op member, you can select us as your local cause. Once we are selected, every time you shop at the store a small part of your shopping total will be donated to us.
Please choose us! If you are not a member, you can apply by following this link… https://www.coop.co.uk/membership
Thank you to Co-op for this amazing opportunity! And thank you to all that choose to support us.
Could you donate to our Toy Bank? We are looking for children’s toys to give to families who need a helping hand this Christmas. If you have toys that are complete and are in good condition (preferably new or unwanted gifts) please drop them into us! THANK YOU.
All donations will be given to local families this Christmas.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept soft toys – all toys must be easy to sanitise.
Support us to support our community!
We are expanding our larder to include fresh and frozen produce. We are urgently seeking a fridge and freezer, new racking, shelving and storage to re-organise our growing stockroom, weighing scales, and thermometers for both units. Please help us with a donation – THANK YOU.

We are pleased to announce the launch of our Community Larder. Supported by Simon Clipsom, Morrisons Community Champion and Cromer Foodbank, our larder offers long life food for those who may need a helping hand. We also want to encourage food recycling in Cromer and welcome food ‘swaps’, if you have tinned or dried food which has a long life and is unopened/undamaged bring it along and swap! We are hoping to add a community fridge in the near future, however to acheive this we will need funding and willing volunteers to help us. If you would like to help with this new project, either as a helping hand or to give a donation we would love to hear from you!
Following an extensive review of our risk assessment, we are confident the Centre is now fully COVID-19 safe. Feedback from our clients has been overwhelmingly positive, with clients reporting that our new procedures, along with a touch of common sense, makes everybody feel safe. PPE and room layouts can be tailored to your needs. Get in touch if you need a safe space!
Merchants’ Place is now open to the public on a part-time basis – every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with the office open 9.30am – 5pm Monday to Friday; however, we remain available to hire 7 days a week, including evenings.
Following government guidelines, we have put a range of new procedures in place to ensure the safety of our clients and staff. If you are looking for room hire or flexible office space, please get in touch by calling 01263 519454 or email email@example.com.
We are hoping to be open 5 days a week soon; however, please contact us if you have any questions or would like to hire our services.
We are hoping to open soon! We are working on new measures to ensure your safety including strategically placed hand sanitizer stations, protective screens and a one-way system through-out the building to maintain appropriate social distancing.
The First Aid course due to run on 6th May 2020 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Another course will be re-booked in the future once Merchants’ Place is back open. All learners who were booked onto the course can either receive a full refund or carry their payment over and join the next course once organised.
After cancelling all classes and social gatherings last week, we have decided to close to the public from 5pm on Monday 23rd March. We feel that we have a moral obligation to protect staff and visitors to the Centre and to help curb the spread of the virus. However, we will continue with our community work at the Centre and will be available to answer queries via telephone and email. If you wish to help your community, you can contact us through our Volunteer Hub.
Please be assured you can still access some of the advice services available here; we can book telephone appointments for Citizens Advice Bureau and Norfolk Community Law Service. We can also put you in touch with NHS Wellbeing Service and Pandora Project (Domestic Abuse Support) who are still offering support. We will use our extensive community network to update our social media platforms and our dedicated COVID-19 support page on our website with local information daily.
As an independent, non-profit, community organisation these are worrying times for us. We sincerely hope after this crisis has passed, with the support of the residents and businesses of Cromer, we will yet again be here to serve you all. Stay safe, take care of each other and we will see you on the other side. Merchants’ Place team Rachel, Hannah & Diane.
